When you grow up on a farm, you learn to love the season of Fall. It is a time when we could slow down just a bit and enjoy the harvest that so much work throughout the year had gone into. We enjoyed hunting trips, family gatherings, and preparing for the excitement that Christmas would bring. Nature through Fall reminds us that all things need rest. You and I were never meant to live so fast-paced but instead were given instructions to rest along the way. In this time of rest, we find the promises of God being fulfilled all around us and the hope that comes from being a follower of Jesus.
Matthew 11:28-30 says 28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
As we enter this season together, I hope that all of us will experience the rest that comes from Jesus. We will have plenty of tasks to do when the spring season comes, but for now, let us embrace this time of renewal.
