My wife Traci and I are blessed to be the parents of three boys. As parents, we imbedded in them a passionate love of sports. Our favorite has always been football, and all three of them have played since they were in pee-wee leagues. I love to watch the mental toughness of each of them as they force themselves to succeed against overwhelming odds. There are times when they are knocked down but jump right back up. They can hear both the cheers of fans and teammates and the boos of their foes and never lose focus. It, indeed, to me mimics life.
Throughout this journey together through a pandemic, we have had to push ourselves to continue influencing others to follow the way of Jesus. We have had our setbacks and successes. I have watched the economic markets rise, the advances in medicine, and witnessed the genuine compassion of our medical communities. I have also experienced the pain of isolation, death, and the anxiety that comes from uncertainty.
Today, I encourage you to show kindness to a stranger, send a note to a friend, and call someone you love and let them hear your voice. In football, you are a part of a team, and we win or lose together. We may have to help each other up from time to time and push ourselves a little harder, but it is worth it in the end. I want to leave you with this from the Apostle Paul from 1 Corinthians 2:9.
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard,
and no mind has imagined
what God has prepared
for those who love him.”
I am so blessed to be on this journey with you.
