“You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. ‘For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.'” —2 Corinthians 9:7 (NLT)
Giving is more than just an act of generosity—it’s an intentional expression of faith, worship, and purpose. Strategic giving means we plan and prioritize how we use the resources God has entrusted to us so that they have the greatest impact for His Kingdom.
In 2 Corinthians 9, Paul speaks to the believers about preparing their gifts in advance. He encourages them to give willingly, not under pressure, and reminds them that God is more interested in the heart behind the gift than the amount. Strategic giving starts with prayerful reflection: “Lord, how do You want me to give?”
Strategic givers don’t wait for emotional appeals or last-minute decisions. They seek wisdom and plan ahead, aligning their giving with their values, vision, and calling. Proverbs 21:5 (NLT) says, “Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity.” This applies not only to how we earn and save, but also to how we give.
Jesus praised strategic giving in the story of the widow’s offering (Luke 21:1–4). While others gave large amounts out of their wealth, she gave all she had—two small coins. Her gift was small in quantity, but great in intentionality and sacrifice. Strategic giving isn’t always about how much you give, but how purposefully and faithfully you give.
God calls us to be stewards, not just donors. This means asking Him to guide where, how, and how much we give—to our local church, to those in need, to missions, or to specific ministries doing Kingdom work. Strategic giving multiplies impact because it’s rooted in obedience and aimed at eternal results.
2 Corinthians 9:11 (NLT) reminds us: “Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous.” God supplies our needs not just for our benefit, but so we can become generous partners in His work on earth.
Journeying Together,
John
