“17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. 18 He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.”
Every time I take a trip to a new place, I find myself looking for a gift to bring to those in my family. It may be a shirt or a magnet for the refrigerator but a little something to let my family know that even when we are apart, they are in my heart. James reminds us that we are always in the heart of God as every gift that we have in life is from him.
Our God has desired to give us the perfect gifts to enjoy and be stewards. All creation exists not to prove there is a God but for us to enjoy. It is incredible to look at this world and admire the mountains, seas, and creatures God created. This is truly a perfect gift for us to embrace and enjoy.
As a steward of these gifts, we must be diligent in giving our all to our Heavenly Father. We must not take for granted the gift or the giver. We must be willing to give back to the giver of all good things. When we use the word steward, we think most often about the idea of tithing ten percent of our income to God by giving to the church. Jesus told us that he wants 100 percent of us, not just 10. Our time, gifts, graces, and hearts are our gift to Jesus. Let us give them freely as our Lord has given to us.
