Matthew 6:19-21,

“19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”

Scholarship season has begun! We are honored as your Foundation to administer numerous scholarships to seminary, undergraduate, and graduate Methodist students throughout our state. These scholarships result from the generosity shown by so many faithful pastors and laity. These scholarships are an investment in the leadership of our church for the future.

Jesus said in Matthew 6 that we should avoid storing up for ourselves but instead invest in the Kingdom of God. This investment strategy is the opposite of the philosophy of our culture that teaches that success is about what you can acquire in your lifetime. So many of our friends and neighbors have bought into that philosophy and spend all their resources trying to have more.

As a follower of Jesus, this cannot be how we live life. We are commanded to be kind, loving, and above all, generous, thinking of others before ourselves. We are to store our treasures in heavenly things knowing that our Heavenly Father will bless them and bring others to follow him.

Maybe you would like to start a scholarship or an endowment to continue your legacy of generosity. We would love to partner with you! Let us show people where our hearts are as followers of Jesus and that what we treasure most is loving one another.
