“3 Give us each day the food we need.”
When Jesus was teaching His disciples how to pray in Luke’s Gospel, he told them to ask God to give them just enough to take care of the day. The message that our culture has embraced is the philosophy that the more that we have, the greater our life will be. This desire to have more is driven by fear and not faith. Fear tells us that we need to keep more and more for ourselves and give less and less away. After all, we may need it later in life.
On the other hand, faith tells us to trust God with all our days. We are directed to be wise stewards that do not squander our resources but who have not forgotten that generosity will be remembered by generations to come. If we are sincere, we all have more than we need for a single day. We have this because our Heavenly Father is reminding us that all that is required of us is faithfulness, and He will take care of the rest.
Let’s pray today for what we need today. Then let us demonstrate the Jesus principle of wealth management and give because he has given to us!
