People Need an Opportunity to Give

by | Dec 11, 2019 | Generosity, Giving

Christmas bells are ringing to invite people to give. There are trees with potential needy gift recipients and boxes for donations all around. Our first inclination is to think that we should not ask for another gift from someone. We believe that people are overwhelmed with giving options. Never-the-less, it is okay for the church to ask.

Contrary to what you may think, an ask is not a source of shame. An ask is an honor of a person’s faith and life.  How the person responds is up to them. The individual is able to say no, yes, or maybe.  I believe that most Christians want to do something that expresses gratitude for the gift of Jesus as a babe in a manger. Their gift may be one of presence or leadership in special worship services. Their gift may be a small or large offering left at the communion rail during Christmas Eve Communion.

The main thing is to provide opportunities for people to give in this season of giving.
