Listening As Communication

by | Apr 24, 2019 | Communications

Communications is telling the story of Jesus and his love. Communications is sharing the lives changed because people give to the church. Communications is also listening to others. Sometimes, I have assumed to know what my wife is thinking. After almost forty years, I can guess correctly at times, but I still get it wrong.  Assumptions can lead us astray.

Church leaders often assume they know what others are thinking. We assume people come to church less frequently because they have busy lives around their children. Have we actually conversed with members about the frequency of their attendance? They may have some different answers for us.

Churches often assume that younger generations do not give regularly because they want to give electronically. Yet, we do not ask them about why they do or do not give. Maybe now would be a good time to stop using our assumptions and doing some listening.
