The Spencer Award

by | Apr 17, 2019 | Communications

For over fifty-years, the Mississippi United Methodist Foundation has assisted churches and individuals in telling the story of Jesus and his love.  One way we do so is through assisting individuals in creating an endowment fund.

Mrs. Sadie S. Thorn and Mr. Frank E. Smith created the Sadie Smith Spencer Award over forty years ago in memory of their mother. Mrs. Spencer lived in the Carroll County community and served several offices in the Leflore County Court House.  The original award referenced articles published in the Mississippi United Methodist Advocate.

The Foundation is pleased to offer the Sadie Smith Spencer Award to churches and conference agencies in the areas of Planned Giving, Narrative Budgets and Other Generosity Communications, such as Social Media and Newsletters. Edwards Street Fellowship Center won the award for best use of social media celebrating and encouraging giving in 2018. Parkway Hills United Methodist Church won the award for best newsletter summarizing the generosity of the congregation in 2018.
