Partnership

“Then God said, “Let the land sprout with vegetation—every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came.” And that is what happened. The land produced vegetation—all sorts of seed-bearing plants, and trees with seed-bearing fruit. Their seeds produced plants and trees of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. And evening passed and morning came, marking the third day.” Genesis 1:11-13

I awoke to yellow pollen covering everywhere at my house this morning and hoped it would rain to wash it off. Yet, through pollen, God shows us how much we need each other. Let me explain what I mean.

Although some plant species rely on wind or water (corn, wheat, rice, oats, barley) to transfer pollen from one flower to the next, the vast majority (about 90%) of all plant species need the help of animals or insects for pollination. We call these pollinators, and they play an essential role in maintaining a diverse plant life that provides food for wildlife and ensures pollination for 35 percent of food crops worldwide. Farmers in the U.S. rely upon insect pollinators to produce the wide variety of fruits and vegetables we enjoy daily. These insect-pollinated foods represent 15-30 percent of all foods consumed in the U.S.  It is amazing how God created this partnership to produce life.

Those who follow the way are taught in scripture to partner together so that the harvest will be great. Together, we can give more and do more! However, this is not the motto of our culture that echoes the value of self-reliance. Jesus taught us that we need each other and that our love in these relationships will produce faith in others. Let us join together as partners and be the good news that Jesus proclaimed.

Journeying Together,

John
