President’s Day

“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2 NLT

We have a rule at our house that no one can speak against elected political officials. That may seem like an oxymoron statement with the heated political climate around us. Yet, scripture tells those of us who are followers of the way that we are called upon to be prayer warriors for those who govern us. We should daily lift our leaders and pray that God will grant them wisdom to bring peace in this world and for nations to work for the greater good of all.

Paul tells Timothy to focus on things other than which side of the aisle he is on and to keep his focus on doing what is right. He admonishes him to lead the way in interceding to our heavenly Father on their behalf. How powerful a statement to share with the world!

President’s Day has come and passed and does not have much fanfare. It is a good time for us to remember that as a steward of the Kingdom of God, we are to be generous in our prayer lives. Let us dedicate ourselves to praying for our leaders, and may our words be filled with grace.

Journeying Together,

John
