“18 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.”- John 20:1 NLT
John tells us that Mary Magdalene went to the burial place of Jesus expecting to find him right where they had left him a few days before. What she found was an empty tomb and stone that had been removed from the entrance. As she witnessed this scene, she did not realize that she was seeing the beginning of our story.
Our story began the day that the world awoke to an empty tomb, and hope was born. Until this moment, those who followed Jesus believed that their Rabbi was dead and their hope had been dashed. They thought all was lost and possibly all that he had taught them could be false. The empty tomb changed everything.
The resurrection of our Lord put the exclamation point on his power and authority, and gave validity to all that he had taught them. It empowered his disciples to go out and proclaim forgiveness and love to all people. This message has spread throughout the centuries, and you and I are a part of this great story because of this one moment. The moment that the tomb was empty.
I pray that this Easter, you find a renewed passion for sharing with others the good news of Jesus. The day of our redemption has come, and we rejoice!
