“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it
The world and all its people belong to him” Psalm 24:1 NLT
David was an individual in the history of Israel that could have looked over his life and relished his life achievements. We know that he was not a perfect individual and his flaws brought great pain to personal relationships. However, he is remembered as a King that desired to fulfill God’s plan for his life.
One of the most impressive attributes of David to me is that he always had a proper understanding of ownership. In Psalm 24, he tells us that everything belongs to God in the world and all people. They do not belong to nations, kings, or any other earthly ruling system but to God alone. This is not the view of our culture that continues to tell all of us that what we have in our hands is ours and ours alone.
This view that David proclaimed is the view of the steward who understands that in the end, our life is not measured in objects but in relationships. You and I have been set apart for this moment to demonstrate to our world that a follower of Jesus is not known for monuments that we build for ourselves, but instead, we are known for the towel in our hands.
David was right to proclaim that everything and everyone belongs to God. Our journey together now leads us to announce this great truth also. How wonderful to know that all we see and touch belongs to the creator of all things. Journeying Together,
