Ecclesiastes 3 says,
1For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
2A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.
Christmas 2021 is in the books, and I hope it was one of excitement and joy for you. The Christmas tree must come down, the decorations stored for another year, and torn wrapping paper in boxes all picked up. Now we must turn our eyes toward a New Year and with-it new challenges and new opportunities. We often struggle right after the holidays to regain focus, and many people suffer from seasonal depression. It’s no wonder since the skies are gray around this time, the air is chilled, and more importantly, the sun is rarely seen. It is easy to start looking down instead of looking forward.
As a follower of Jesus, we know that all that has happened through the year 2021, both good and challenging was just all a part of one more season of life for all of us. Ecclesiastes is known as one of the “Wisdom” books of the Old Testament. The writer tells us that our lives are seasons, and we will feel the ebb and flow of life. We will morn those we lose and rejoice at the new life that God allows us to embrace. We will watch the grass turn green once more in the spring and leaves turn brown and fall to the ground in Autumn. All things happen in due season.
We know that God has all things under control and what is required of us is to press forward in the year to come working for His Kingdom. That is why now we refocus and prepare for the next season for all of us. Let us use this next season of life living passionately and influencing others to become followers.
