“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” — Proverbs 3:9-10 (NIV)
Generosity is a reflection of God’s heart. He is the ultimate Giver, blessing us daily with breath, provision, and salvation through Jesus Christ. As His followers, we are called to give—not just from what we have left over but from the portion we intentionally set apart for Him. This is the principle of “separated portion generosity,” where we dedicate a specific part of our income, time, or resources solely for God’s purposes.
In the Old Testament, God’s people were instructed to give the first fruits of their harvest to the Lord. This act demonstrated trust in His provision, acknowledging that everything comes from Him. It was not about giving when it was convenient but about making generosity a priority. Similarly, today, we are called to honor God by setting apart a portion of what we have—whether it’s finances, talents, or acts of service.
When we separate a portion of our blessings for God, we express our dependence on Him rather than on our wealth or abilities. This kind of generosity cultivates a heart of gratitude and aligns our priorities with His kingdom. It also positions us to be channels of blessing, allowing God to use us to meet the needs of others.
God promises that when we give faithfully, He will take care of our needs. This doesn’t necessarily mean material wealth, but it does mean we will experience His abundant provision in our lives—peace, joy, and a deepened trust in Him.
Journeying Together,
John
