Lent is a season of reflection, repentance, and renewal. It is a time when we turn our hearts back to God, recognizing our dependence on Him and seeking to grow in faith. One key aspect of this journey is stewardship in which we faithfully are managing the gifts God has entrusted to us.
Often, when we think of stewardship, we focus on finances. While financial giving is important, biblical stewardship encompasses all areas of life: our time, talents, relationships, and even our bodies. Lent invites us to examine how we are using these gifts. Are we stewarding them for God’s glory, or are we hoarding them for ourselves?
During Lent, we are called to fast, pray, and give. Each of these practices reflects an aspect of stewardship:
- Fasting teaches us discipline over our physical desires. It reminds us that all we have comes from God and that we should use our resources wisely. By choosing to give something up, we acknowledge that our true satisfaction is found in Christ.
- Prayer deepens our reliance on God. Instead of striving to control every aspect of our lives, we surrender to His guidance. Our time in prayer is an act of stewardship, showing that we prioritize our relationship with Him above all else.
- Giving is an act of trust and generosity. Whether through financial support, acts of service, or simple kindness, giving reflects our belief that God is our provider. Lent challenges us to share what we have, remembering that everything belongs to Him.
Lent is not just about sacrifice; it is about transformation. True stewardship recognizes that our lives are not our own—we are caretakers of God’s blessings. Let this season be a time to realign our hearts, seeking to serve and glorify Him in all we do.
Journeying Together,
John
