Political Leadership

by | Aug 9, 2023 | Generosity, Giving

Then King Darius sent this message to the people of every race and nation and language throughout the world:

“Peace and prosperity to you!“I decree that everyone throughout my kingdom should tremble with fear before the God of Daniel.

For he is the living God,
    and he will endure forever.
His kingdom will never be destroyed,
    and his rule will never end.

He rescues and saves his people;
    he performs miraculous signs and wonders
    in the heavens and on earth.
He has rescued Daniel
    from the power of the lions.”

So, Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.”

-Daniel 6:25-28 NLT

The first round of elections for 2023 has come and passed. I started to think, who is an excellent example of a political leader to admire? I ran through all the great names in history, and as I read my Bible, I found myself in Daniel. I realized that Daniel spent his whole life in service to his adopted nation but lived a remarkable life.

Daniel presents a different model than what we see exemplified so many times. He spent his life as a servant, seeking first God’s Kingdom and being trustworthy in everything he did. When others resorted to tricks and tried to bring him down, Daniel remained faithful and refused to compromise. He prayed diligently and remained a man of principle.

Daniel had to persevere through times of persecution, but eventually, his enemies’ political games and conspiracies failed. Their lies were exposed. God protected Daniel, and he gained even greater respect and was promoted to the pinnacle of power. Today, what advice would Daniel give us? First, no matter what others do, you don’t have to resort to manipulation or tricks. Instead, commit yourself to being a person of integrity. Faithfully seek to serve God and others. Develop a deep personal relationship with Him. Be ready to persevere and never compromise. Devote yourself to prayer. Be willing to get involved. Stand for what is right. Speak out, and don’t be silent!

Journeying Together,

John
