“How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” —James 4:14 NLT
I have spent the last few weeks preparing for our scholarship meeting that will meet at the end of April. I have read around 150 essays from applicants that have reflected on their past and, for the most part, are unsure of the future but full of optimism. As I read them, I remember how time seemed to move so slowly at that point in life. Now, days, months, and even years seem to rush by and I have no ability to slow them.
John Wesley said, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” As a follower of Jesus, we understand that our time is limited in many ways and uncertain. We can be sure of the love of our Heavenly Father and his desire for us to demonstrate that love to one another.
Many individuals and churches of the Mississippi Annual Conference wanted to leave a mark of love on the generations that would follow them, especially as they prepared for their careers through scholarship endowments. This year we will award over 140,000 dollars to undergraduate Methodist students and 30,000 to Seminary students. Many of those that created them have already finished their race, but their legacy goes on through the lives they have touched with their generosity.
Life is a vapor, but before it fades, let us use it every day to share the love of Jesus with everyone!
Journeying Together,
John
