Our Strength

10 How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but you didn’t have the chance to help me. 11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.” Phillippians 4:10-13

If you watched the NCAA Football championship Monday, you noticed  that some eye black that the players wore pointed us to Philippians 4:13. It is an inspiring text that pushes the reader to understand that you and I were never meant to go through living in our own strength. If we do, we will certainly be disappointed when that same personal strength that we have fails us.

The truth of the text is that you can do all that God has called you to fulfill for His purpose for your life. We deep down desire to make sure that we complete our purpose before we finish our race. The motivation we love but the context of where we fulfill it concerns us. Paul said that he had learned that no matter the situation that the secret to living was the knowledge that Jesus was his source of strength. Therefore, when he found himself in places that he didn’t desire to be in, he believed there was a purpose for it, and in the end, God would receive the glory.

This year will bring challenges and choices. Some of them will take a little more effort to overcome than others. The good news is that in any circumstance of life, Jesus is there with us. You may not have this verse on the wall of your home, but it is the perfect one to have written on your heart.

Journeying Together,

John
