Be Still

Blessings of Advent

“Be still, and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.” Psalm 46:10

As I near the Christmas season, I always tell myself this is the year I will take it slow and enjoy the season. I envision making hot wassail, turning on the fireplace, and watching Christmas movies with the family each evening. Unfortunately, I forget I am an adult, and life doesn’t work that way!

Instead, I find myself trying to get work done, carting kids from one activity to another, rushing to church and trying to find time to make sure all the gifts are purchased before Santa Claus comes down the chimney. Everything always seems rushed during this season of peace and joy to me.

In Psalm 46:10, the writer reminds us that no matter how busy life gets or even this holiday season, we need to just stop for a moment and focus on our heavenly Father. Jesus is worthy of us stopping what we are doing and rejoicing at the knowledge of His everlasting love for us and unmerited free grace to all who call upon His name and follow him. That is the most fantastic present you and I will receive this year.

I encourage you to stop what you’re doing and focus on the wonderful God we serve and what He has given you.

Journeying Together,

John
