Unity

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.   -John 17:20-21

I am always amazed that the last prayer recorded by Jesus focused on our unity with one another. Jesus tells us that our unity would influence others to believe that he had been sent from the Father. Our oneness would be essential to bringing others to follow the way of Jesus.

God has made His people one with Him through the Holy Spirit. We are bound as one body to further His kingdom and message of grace and forgiveness. When we are united as Jesus prayed that we would be, we see the world as our parish where we have been planted to bloom for this season.

When our mind is set on the gospel, we are strengthened to stand against the enemy of fear. It is fear that is at the root of many divisions in the body of Christ. Therefore, we must walk in the light of the Lord and be instruments of peace and unity.

If our goal as Christians is to become more like Jesus, then we must walk the way he walked, serve the way he served, and pray the way he prayed. If Jesus prayed for our unity, so should we!”.

Journeying together,

John
