Isaiah 7:14 says,
“All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).”
We must admit that the day after Thanksgiving sends all of us back to our childhood for a moment. We try to act like it’s just another day and dread the holiday rush, but we are excited deep down. Individuals will begin to decorate their houses with lights, wreaths, and of course, the Christmas tree! The countdown has officially started as we make our way toward Christmas day.
In all of this excitement and anticipation, we must not forget that this is the season of the year when our story began. Our story is the story of Jesus, who would save us from our sins. He would come to us through the life of a virgin conceived by the Holy Spirit and would walk among us, offering us a new way to live. When the time came, He even laid down his life so that we may be free from the bondage of sin, and then we could receive the gift of eternal life.
As we make our preparations for this most wonderful time of year, let us pause for just a moment and remember the gift that we have in Jesus. It is this gift that we desire to offer to everyone. I pray that our legacy is one of gift-giving. Let us use our days to share the good news of Jesus, which is the greatest gift of all.
