Planning For Year End Giving Campaigns

“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” “Yes, Lord,” they told him, “we do.”- I Corinthians 10:31 NLT

Now is the perfect time to start thinking and preparing for your end of year giving campaign and were going to take a few weeks to discuss some practices and strategies.

The end-of-year giving season is a great opportunity for nonprofits to boost their annual fundraising. Approximately 30 percent of all annual giving occurs in December and around 10% occurs in the last three days of December. 28% of nonprofits raise between 26 – 50% of their annual funds for their year-end ask!

Approximately 53 percent start planning their year-end fundraising campaign by October. It makes sense to start planning early if you want to ensure the success of your year-end campaign – especially since so many fundraising appeals go out at the same time (which can overwhelm donors and staff).

Before you start working on your 2023 fundraising strategy, review your 2022 efforts. Sometimes, this is the most important step a nonprofit can take when planning its year-end campaign. Data can be a powerful guide as to which direction your organization should take and which tools to use.

It’s smart to refresh your memory on the following –

  • How did last year’s campaign go?
  • How much was raised? Who contributed?
  • Was this above or below your expectations?
  • What went really well? What didn’t? Why?
  • Which strategies and tactics did your supporters respond to?
  • Which ones weren’t successful?

This will get you and your stewardship team a good starting point to evaluate and determine how to shape your end of giving campaign.

Journeying Together,

John
