“Give us each day the food we need” -Luke 11:3 NLT

We teach our children at an early age the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples. I wonder how many times we pray the Lord’s prayer and never let the words we say pierce our hearts. This prayer is straightforward and outlines God’s holiness, the provisions in which he would care for us, and the way of forgiveness. Yet, we are often just reciting the words instead of genuinely praying.

Jesus told his disciples that when you ask for provisions, ask for only what you need. This is the opposite of what our culture says: the more you have at the end of life will determine your success. Let’s admit we have all been guilty of not upholding this part of the prayer. We have feared scarcity for so long that we forgot our God is one of abundance.

What is it that we genuinely need today? I bet that when you sit down and evaluate it, it’s not as much as we assumed. Lord, give us each day the food we need!

Journeying Together,

John
