“Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.”— Matthew 6:20 (NLT)
We all want our lives to matter. We long to make a difference but not just for today, but for eternity. One powerful way to do that is through impact gifts: intentional, often larger or strategic gifts designed to extend God’s Kingdom beyond our own lifetime.
Jesus taught us to think with eternity in mind. In Matthew 6:20, He urges us to store up treasures in heaven. Unlike worldly possessions, heavenly treasures are secure, lasting, and deeply meaningful. When we give to God’s work and especially in ways that support long-term ministry then we’re investing in something that can never be taken away.
Impact gifts come in many forms: a generous donation toward a church building project, a legacy gift in a will, or even assets like land, stocks, or life insurance designated for Kingdom purposes. These gifts often require planning, prayer, and sacrifice, however, they produce fruit for generations.
Think of the ripple effect. A single gift can help plant churches, support missionaries, train leaders, and feed the hungry. It can help the gospel reach places we may never go ourselves. When we give with impact in mind, our generosity lives on long after we’re gone.
Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 9:11 (NLT), “Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.” Impact giving not only blesses others, it leads to praise and thanksgiving directed to God.
The goal isn’t to be remembered—it’s to make Jesus known. Our greatest impact happens when we align our resources with God’s mission. Whether you have much or little, ask God how He might use what you have to bless others in ways that last.
Journeying Together,
John
