“Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender.”- Proverbs 22:7 NLT
Debt is a burden that weighs heavily on the heart and mind. It can cause stress, strain relationships, and even hinder our ability to serve God freely. The Bible speaks often about the dangers of debt, warning us that being in financial bondage limits our choices and steals our peace. But the good news is that God desires financial freedom for His people, and through discipline, wisdom, and faith, we can break free from debt’s grip.
Eliminating debt is more than just a financial goal—it is a spiritual journey. When we manage our finances according to God’s principles, we align our hearts with His will. The Bible teaches us to be good stewards of what we have (Luke 16:10) and to live within our means so that we may be generous and able to give to others (2 Corinthians 9:7). Living debt-free enables us to be a greater blessing to those in need and to support God’s work without financial worry.
One of the greatest benefits of eliminating debt is the peace that comes with it. The stress and anxiety that often accompany financial struggles can rob us of joy. But when we plan, trust God, and remain diligent in paying off what we owe, we begin to experience a sense of relief and confidence in His provision. Philippians 4:19 reminds us that God will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory.
Breaking free from debt requires discipline, patience, and a change in mindset. It means choosing contentment over materialism, wisdom over impulse, and faith over fear. It may take time, but every step toward financial freedom is a step toward a life of peace and greater purpose.
As we eliminate debt, we also gain the ability to give more generously. God calls us to be cheerful givers (2 Corinthians 9:7), and when we are not burdened by debt, we can freely give to others, invest in God’s kingdom, and make an eternal impact.
We always must ask God for wisdom in handling your finances. Seek His guidance in making a plan to eliminate debt and trust Him to provide along the way. Freedom from debt is possible, and with God’s help, you can experience the joy and power of financial peace.
Journeying Together,
John
