New Year’s Resolutions

by | Jan 3, 2024 | Direction, Journey, Peace

16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16 NLT

As we usher in a new year, many of us embark on resolutions—whether labeled as pledges, promises, declarations, or oaths. These resolutions signify a commitment to positive change, such as giving up habits like sweets or smoking or adopting new practices like making our beds or reading the Bible. Resolutions, in essence, are pathways to becoming better versions of ourselves.

However, the reality is disheartening, with statistics suggesting that 23% abandon their resolutions within the first week, and 43% falter by the end of January. Only a mere 9% manage to see their resolutions through. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed in the face of such numbers.

Yet, the essence of this message is rooted in the belief that God does not desire us to feel defeated. His intention is for us to walk with Him, allowing Him to renew our spirits daily. Though our physical bodies may falter, our spirits are constantly being revitalized, providing the courage and energy to persist in our quest to align with the best versions of ourselves.

As we step into 2024, let us remember that the gift of spiritual renewal is bestowed upon us daily by God. It is an opportunity to make the most of, propelling ourselves to be better disciples and effective disciple-makers in His service.

Journeying Together,

John
